even though he described their manners as “decorous and praiseworthy”
for god, glory, and gold
they were beaten, they were sold,
raped and murdered and forced to parade

in 1619, the first slaves came from west africa to the american colonies
it took 200 years and a bloody civil war to finally claim that they were free
