Christmas Truce 1914

|

Christmas Day in 1914
Lots of yelling
Lots of killing
Lots of shooting
Lots of shelling
Lots of yelling
Lots of shooting
Lots of killing
Lots of shelling
Lots of yelling
Lots of killing
Lots of shooting
Lots of shelling
Lots of yelling
Lots of shooting
Lots of killing
Lots of shelling
The guns went silent
We met in the middle
Shook hands,
Played football,
Exchanged addresses,
Departed friends
When the
Darkness came,
We all returned
To our trenches
And the yelling,
The shooting,
The killing,
The shelling?
It all began, again...

Trapped In The Wire
02:45
|
|||
I'm trapped in the wire
In No-Man's Land
Concertina wire barbs
Digging in my skin
I can't break out,
I'm sinking down
Mud and blood and
Bone abound
I'm trapped in the wire
Trapped in the wire
Trapped in the wire
I'm trapped in the wire
Cannot see
What's in front of me
Darkness has set in
Cannot see
Cannot stop
My own screaming
I am bleeding,
and sinking down
Sinking down
I'm trapped in the wire
Trapped in the wire
Trapped in the wire
I'm trapped in the wire
Trapped in the wire
Good God,
What have I done
To deserve this?
I miss my children,
they're waiting for me
My wife expects
Me home alive
Mud is filling
My mouth and lungs
As I face
My demise
I'm trapped in the mire
Trapped in the wire
I'm trapped in the mire
Beneath the wire
Trapped in the wire

Delville Wood
03:46
|
|||
Looking for a fight
Three battalions strong
The first to march
Into Delville Wood
They held one week long
2300 marched in
Just over 700 marched out
They didn't
Give an inch of ground
The South Africans
Held the line
Hold the line!
Hold the line!
Here come
The Hun, again!
Here come
The Hun, again!
A tangled mass of trees
Flattened by artillery
Pock-marked with craters
Where the lowing
Of the dying echoed
Dead stacked
Like cordwood
Had to be pushed aside
And the killing continued
Despite machine-gun fire
Hold the line!
Hold the line!
Here come Tom, again!
Here come Tom, again!

Hatred
02:25
|
|||
Inhale
Exhale
The poisonous
Fumes
That make
Hatred
Spread its
Gloom
The fallacy of our hatred
The banality of our hatred
Don't hold
Yourself back
When facing
Doom
Reject
Hatred
Wherever
It blooms
The erasure of all hatred
Deliver us from hatred

The British Empire introduced the tank
To the battlefields of World War 1
On the 15th of September 1916---
A Friday...
Loud as hell
Treads turning earth
Coming across the battlefield
Nothing could stop it,
Except maybe
Heavy artillery
And we couldn't get
A call going in time
Someone yelled, then
Someone else screamed and
It spread all up and down
The line
Here come the iron horse
Of the battlefield
Here come the iron horse
Of the battlefield
It may have been slow,
It may have broken down
Quite a bit
But when those tracks came down
Upon someone's head,
There was no doubting it...
War had changed forever---
War had changed for good
And there still
weren't a damned thing
We could do about it,
Except run
And hope for the best
Here come the iron horse
Of the battlefield
Here come the iron horse
Of the battlefield

Trench Gun
03:39
|
|||
6 April 1917---
The United States
Declares war on
Germany
October that same year,
The first US troops
Enter combat
And they brought
The trench gun
And they brought
The trench gun
The Phillipine Insurrection
Taught the United States
That the .12 gauge
Combat shotgun
Was effective at
Close range
And, so,
They used the trench gun
To sweep the trenches
To kill Germans
Germany filed
A formal complaint
In September 1918,
Complained that
the US shotgun
Was cruel
and inhumane
The Germans complained
About the trench gun
The nation that
Introduced
Mustard gas
And chemical warfare
Couldn't stand
The trench gun
Couldn't stand
The trench gun...

Bayonet Ballet
02:52
|
|||
I’m a minister of death
And I’m praying for war
Staring at the night sky
Watch it light up like the daytime
Standing at the bottom of a trench
Waiting for the call to charge
Someone blows the whistle,
And
Over the top
Into Hell we go
I deal death all around
All around
All around
All around me
I bear another Hun to the ground
With a pirouette of killing
I deal death all around
All around
All around
All around me
A bayonet ballet
Sanctioned murder
Blood is spilling
I cross No-Man’s Land
And I jump over the wire
Land in a Hun’s trench
And I open fire
Got my M-17
Locked and ready to go
Shove it in the mouth of a hun
Pull my trigger
And watch his head explode
I deal death all around
All around
All around
All around me
I bear another Hun to the ground
With a pirouette of killing
I deal death all around
All around
All around
All around me
A bayonet ballet
Sanctioned murder
Blood is spilling

Letters From Home
03:58
|
|||
Yesterday is over
Tomorrow's never guaranteed
And, so,
We live in the here and now,
Just trying to survive
Every now and then, I dream
I dream of you and I
Dreaming what could've been,
And how yesterday is over
Yesterday is over
Tomorrow's never guaranteed
Tomorrow's never guaranteed
Sometimes,
These letters from home
Make me wanna cry
Today, they may have
Finally succeeded
Where others have failed...
I could've
Landed facedown,
Or on my knees
Luckily, for me,
I can enjoy
This cool breeze...
I hope this message finds you well
It may be the last that I can send
It's getting colder
It's getting colder
And I'm
Dreaming
Of what
Could've been
It's time for me to go
But, for you,
This is a beginning
It's a new beginning
It's a new beginning
It's a new beginning...
